Last week, our podcast, “Beyond Sunday (with Bill),” finished its first series which covered the topic of what we do in our worship time together on Sundays. The purpose of this was twofold. First, it is meant to be a review. Often, there are things that we know, but that is good to be reminded of. Second, it is our hope that this podcast will begin to reach members of our community. There are many now, who have never “gone to church.” Yet, interest in spiritual matters is said to be going up since 2020. When someone in our community listens to these messages it will at least give them a little information about what to expect when they worship with us. Of course, there are other dimensions to our assembly than those or any number of lessons can speak on, and one of those things is our fellowship. The camaraderie here at Sixth and Washington is also something which others should be made aware of, and as such this has been mentioned on the podcast a couple of different times – for it is a trait that can attract people and truly glorify the Lord. Remember, Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,” (John 13.35). It all begins and ends with love – the Greatest Command (Matthew 22.36-40).

Over the next six weeks on the podcast we will talk about what many have coined “the steps of salvation.” The emphasis will be on (as it always should be) Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2.2). Again, the purpose behind this series will be multi-faceted. Perhaps it will be good to review what we already know, and will spur us on to tell our families, friends and neighbors about the simple yet profound Truth through which God has been saving the lost for thousands of years.
After that series is done, we will likely take about a month off and begin to change the format for the “second season.” That is when the “Beyond Sunday” title will begin to fit – though we may change the second part from “with Bill” to something a little more attention grabbing and appropriate. This is where you all may come in if you would like to. Another one of the goals of the podcast is to help the folks of Marietta and the surrounding area to see us as part of their community. People whom they know, or would be comfortable knowing and spending time with. So, in the second season , we will hopefully have anyone who would like to take part in the podcast to get involved. For example, we will need folks to introduce the episode (a big thanks to Nathan Deem, Owen Morgan, Braden Morgan, Jacob Holdren and Colten Holdren for doing it over the last several weeks). We will also be looking to have brief interviews where you will (if you want) have the opportunity to tell us a little about yourself and your walk with the Lord. Of course, will be nothing too personal asked, nor will anything be discussed without anyone’s prior knowledge. Also, it would be good to have a dialogue between a couple of co-hosts rather than the monologue that will have made up the entirety of the first season. So if you are interested in doing something like that, please let me know! One more thing to begin looking for in the episodes to come will be our congregational singing rather than the pre-recorded groups you have heard so far.
If anyone else has any other ideas, please share. This is something that we can all be involved in. All in all, this is a great opportunity to use the technology that our culture has to get the Gospel into the homes of the members of our community, and to give glory to God!
