Moses urged Israel on Moab’s plains: “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29). No half-measures—all your heart. Exile wouldn’t sever; seeking would restore. Centuries later, Solomon’s temple dedication echoed: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Humility gets heaven’s attention.

Isaiah was told: “Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am’” (Isaiah 58:9). No magic words—just obedience meeting mercy. Jeremiah, encouraged the exiles in Babylon by referencing the above passage from Deuteronomy. “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). God wanted the people to return to Him wholeheartedly, and He told them exactly how to do it.
To His disciples, He taught: “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them” (Mark 11:24). Prayer isn’t a wish, and God is not a genie that is beholden to us. Rather faith is trusting the Father’s good will. In his practical manner, James remembering Elijah and a horrible drought in First Kings writes: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16).
John’ writes: “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight” (1 John 3:22). Faithful obedience is aligning our desires with God’s will. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14). Confidence rests not on our merit, but His promise.
Today’s distractions— bright screens, busy schedules, bustling selves—become obstacles on the way to God. But He waits. Seek with all your heart. Humble yourself. Believe. Obey. Our prayers for the wandering prodigal, our intercessions the healing of the infirmed, our calls for His guidance all “avail much.” God is faithful. He has not abandoned you. Call upon His Name and He will answer. It may not always be as we plan, but will always be in accordance to His perfect will—right on time, right on target.
